Welcome to the digital Sacred Web! Founded in 1998 by M. Ali Lakhani, Sacred Web is a biannual journal dedicated to exploring traditional metaphysical principles from the world's faith and wisdom traditions, and their application to the contingent circumstances of modernity. Through articles spanning 50 print form volumes published over 25 years (1998-2023), Sacred Web has explored the relevance of universal and perennial wisdom to the challenges of modern life. In 2023, Sacred Web moved to its present digital platform to make the journal more accessible and its content available in more formats than the book medium allowed. We hope you will appreciate this, and we welcome your comments.

Understanding Our Focus
- Tradition: The term ‘Tradition’ refers to the perennial and universal principles of the Sacred found across all spiritual and wisdom traditions. It represents a shared metaphysical core that transcends its expression in individual religions and the wisdom traditions.
- Sacred: The term ‘Sacred’ denotes the presence of the Absolute in the contingent, of the Infinite in the finite, and of the Centre in the periphery. It is the core ground of Being that both transcends and infuses reality.
- Modernity vs. Modernism: We distinguish ‘Modernity,’ which refers to our contemporary era, with ‘Modernism,’ an ethos that disconnects life from the Sacred. Our work critiques Modernism’s tendency to overlook sacred truths while examining how Tradition can harmonize with modern life.
Our Logo
The Sacred Web logo features a celestial arch, representing Heaven, above a terrestrial square, symbolizing Earth. The descending line from Heaven signifies the Revelation of Sacred Wisdom, and the Sacred Web on Earth symbolizes the Sacred’s ongoing and connecting radiance through Tradition and the Intellect. The design reflects the continuity of Tradition and our integral connection to the Sacred Centre, the Heart that connects Earth to Heaven.
